Population

The Albany, GA Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 126,744 in 1970 to 157,308 in 2010. That was an increase of 24.1 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 536 in 1970 to 3,233 in 2010. That was an increase of 484.6 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 0.4 percent to 2.1 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 22.1 percent.

The primary sources of population change are:

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Domestic migration (NDM) was consistently negative and B-D accounted for most of the population increase.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, B-D remained the primary factor adding population.
